“A fresh yet aged Barolo, showing the wealth and glory of the great 2000 vintage. Aromas of ripe strawberry, tart and mushroom and some bark undertones. Full-bodied and very powerful with a depth of fruit and chewy tannins that are ripe and round. Some smoke and bark, too. A fantastic wine now and will continue to age beautifully. Only 500 bottles made. A new program with aged wines from the family reserve. This was bottled in 2005. Drink or hold.” James Suckling 96/100

Area: Piedmont/ Piemonte

Grape Variety: Nebbiolo 100%

Vineyards: from our Family-owned vineyards intentionally located in multiple different villages of the Barolo area, mainly Serralunga d’Alba, Novello, Grinzane Cavour and La Morra.

This wine has been always and traditionally produced by our Family with grapes coming from different exposures: this is the classic “formula” used by the ancient Barolo Families to produce a wine which embraces and combines each of the unique characteristics of the different vineyards and terroirs of the Barolo area as a whole.

Vinification: the Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the different exposures are blended before the fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Long skin contact maceration for 30 days at high temperatures.

Ageing: in big French oak “botti” for about 30 months and partially in small barrels (“barriques”) as well.

Nnotes: in the occasion of our 140th anniversary we decided to release a very limited reserve of 500 numbered bottles of the highly acclaimed 2000 vintage: a nod to the turn of the century which marked the beginning of a series of extraordinary vintages in the Langhe.

Pleasing aromas of rose petals and iris, intense dark fruits, scents of dark chocolate and ripe plums.

Full-bodied palate with velvety tannins and a long finish.

Rating

“From the winery’s private cellars, this limited edition, just-released Riserva has aromas of forest floor and blue flowers enhanced with delicate whiffs of tar and French oak. Combining the freshness of youth and the complexity of age, the elegant, full-bodied palate delivers dried cherry, cranberry compote, licorice and tobacco alongside underbrush notes. Tightly knit, silky tannins give it a smooth, enveloping texture. Drink through 2030. Kerin O’Keefe” – 96/100Wine Enthusiast
