VINO ITALIANO

This will be the largest tasting of Italian wines ever organised in NZ with up to 150 wines open for tasting and with the presence of 16 representatives from Italian wineries.
Entry will be open to the paying public from from 13:00 to 19:00 tickets can be purchased at: www.iticket.co.nz for $40.
There will be unlimited number of food and wine tastings.
Sapori d’ Italia is the leading importer of Italian wines in NZ and it has operated since 1989.
This is the first time that all of Sapori wines will be available for tasting and it will be a golden opportunity to get to know the producers and to understand the complex but highly rewarding world of Italian wine.
Marco Nordio Director and owner of Sapori d’ Italia has organised this event that will see the presence of the delicious food delicacies imported by Mediterranean Foods.
There will be the presence of legendary Italian producers like: Pio Cesare an historic producer of Barolo and Barbaresco in the Langhe region; Antonio Benanti producer of the exciting Etna wines; Masi the historic producer of Amarone and Valpolicella and many others like the biodynamic producer of Brunello di Montalcino Podere Le Ripi, a specialist in Barbaresco like Sottimano, the history of Chianti Classico with Ricasoli, Ca Bolani, Sensi, Rocca di Montemassi, Tenuta Ulisse, Velenosi, Agricola Punica, Cantine San Marzano, Col Vetoraz, Felluga, Braida, Bartali, Cleto Chiarli, Serafini&Vidotto, Caruso&Minini, Ferrari, Murgo, Sentio, Perlage, Varvaglione, Baladin Craft Beer, Biscardo.
This will allow the tasting of Italian wines alongside the producers that will be describing their history and trasmitting their passion.
Cameron Douglas (MSommelier), Yvonne Lorking (Winefriend) and Andrea Martinisi (Sommelier at The Grove) will be present and they will run masterclasses in a private room at the venue.
Italian wine can be appreciated much more if it is put into an historical and cultural context and in the presence of food. There are about 600 native grape varieties in Italy and each is heavily connected to the territory and to its history. To get to know the stories behind Italian wine means understanding a large part of the Italian identity as wine is heavily linked to history and culture.
Wine is also fun and this is ultimately what we should expect from this tasting!
Tasted wines can be purchased at the venue at a special reduced price.

Wine tasting, wine education, wine judging and wine drinking – all equally important of course! – Cameron’s passion for wine takes him around New Zealand the world.
“You may recognise a Fiat, Ferrari, Lamborghini or Maserati on the roads of New Zealand, but do you know your Valpolicellas’ , Amarones’ and Chianti’s from your Trebbianos’, Soaves’ and Verdicchios’? No where in New Zealand has there been an opportunity to discover and taste so many Italian wines under one roof. Segnare nel diario oggi per favore!

Andrea Martinisi
“Blind tasting with Italian wines” – from 13:30 to 14:15

I was born in a very small rural town in central Italy called Brufa. My journey in wine started very young helping my grandpa bottling wine bought in bulk from the local farmer or cooperative. I have worked in many places around the globe, from high-end Michelin starred restaurants like the Fat Duck, to smaller business including Gerard Basset MS MW’s Hotel Terravina in the New Forest in UK. Now I live in Auckland, and work as beverage director for The Grove and Baduzzi Restaurants, two of the best restaurants in this country.
