The iconic wine of Tenuta Luce, Luce was the first wine ever produced in Montalcino from a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, combining the elegance and vibrant acidity of Tuscany’s native grape with the richness and silky texture of Merlot. Created through the pioneering collaboration between the historic Frescobaldi family and Californian wine legend Robert Mondavi, Luce has become one of Italy’s most internationally acclaimed Super Tuscan-style wines.

The 2023 vintage reflects a growing season marked by a mild winter, abundant spring rainfall and a warm summer balanced by cooling thunderstorms. These conditions allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and evenly, producing grapes with outstanding concentration, freshness and phenolic maturity. The blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Sangiovese was fermented in concrete tanks before maturing for 24 months in French oak barriques (80% new), creating exceptional depth, complexity and refinement.

Deep ruby red in colour, Luce 2023 opens with expressive aromas of ripe red berries, black cherry, sweet spice, cedar and subtle balsamic notes. The palate is rich and luxurious, yet beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity that carries the wine effortlessly across the palate. Layers of dark fruit, cocoa, tobacco and toasted oak are framed by perfectly integrated tannins, leading to an elegant, persistent finish that showcases both power and finesse.

Already remarkably harmonious in its youth, Luce 2023 possesses the structure and concentration to reward 15–20 years of cellaring, where it will continue to develop greater complexity and elegance.

Food Pairing: Perfect with premium grilled beef, dry-aged ribeye, roasted lamb, venison, wild game, truffle dishes, braised short ribs and mature Italian cheeses.
