Described for the first time in 1735, Perricone – nicknamed “Guarnaccio” by the Regaleali winemakers – has been cultivated at the Estate since 1959. A selection from the historical San Lucio vineyard, provided new vines to enable the making of this one, rich in polyphenols and spicy aromas, evoking memories of ancient wine tradition.

The Perricone grape is one of character and strength, and you get a good taste of both here. The 2014 Sicilia Perricone Guarnaccio Tenuta Regaleali is a ripe and fruit-forward expression with thick extraction and a blackish color. There is a determined point of alcohol (15%) but it is wrapped tightly within the heavy texture of the wine. The bouquet delivers dark fruit, spice, terra-cotta and even a touch of Pecorino cheese rind. If you are looking for a full-bodied value wine to pair with steak or lamb, this is a great choice. 91/100  Robert Parker
