Vineyard: The Currà vineyard is located in the town of Neive, which is very close to the area of Barbaresco; this results in a wine rich in tannis, like all the wines from Barbaresco, but with the fruity, charming elegance of Neive. This wine is released one year after the other crus to better express these components.
Vinification: The fermentation and the maceration on the skins normally takes about 25 days. No selected yeasts are used. The malolactical fermentation happens naturally in French barrels coopered expressively for us by Francois Frères in Burgundy. The wine stays in these barrels for approximately 24 months, half of this time on its lees. 15% of the barrels used for aging this wine are new, the remaining 85% have previously been used up to 4 times. There is no filtering and no fining prior to bottling.
95 points – Wine Enthusiast
Fragrant and focused, this offers tantalizing aromas of rose, violet, woodland berry and Asian incense. Firm and linear, the chiseled palate evokes red cherry, cranberry, star anise and a hint of white pepper set against tightly wound fine-grained tannins. It’s still young and austere but balanced, with vibrant acidity. Give it ample time to fully develop. Drink 2023–2038.
