From: A Tale of Two Extremes: The 2020 Brunellos and 2019 Riservas (Nov 2024)

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Amore e Magia opens with an intense blend of blood oranges, ground cloves, cinnamon sticks and crushed stone embellishing black cherries. Silken and sapid, this displays notable weight offset by zesty acidity as vibrantly ripe red and blue fruits swirl throughout. Edgy tannins tug at the cheeks as the 2020 finishes dramatically long and spicy with notes of violet pastille and a sensation of liquid stone. Nicely done.

Tasting notes:

This wine feels full and compact but at the same time it’s slender and with a nice minerality, the result from growing on white marn, soil which reins over the south east side of Montalcino. In the nose, it expresses itself as a symphony of balanced aromas ranging from the intense smell of red-oranges and fresh mediterrean herbs. Each sip is rich, juicy and dynamic, intriguing and fun, telling the story of a wine that with time will show many interesting sides of its personality.

Food Pairing: Serve with roast meat, aged cheeses and pasta.
