Appellation: Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC
Grapes: 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot
Production Area: Produced in Bolgheri on Tuscany’s Mediterranean coast, just a few kilometres from the sea. The vineyards benefit from Bolgheri’s warm, sunny climate and cooling maritime breezes, allowing the grapes to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining freshness and aromatic intensity.
Soil: The vineyards of Bolgheri are characterised by complex, varied soils shaped by the area’s ancient geological history. This diversity, together with the estate’s proximity to the Mediterranean, contributes to Greppicaia’s structure, mineral character, freshness and distinctive sense of place.
Winemaking: The grapes are carefully selected in the vineyard, then destemmed and gently crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by extended maceration to extract colour, flavour and fine tannins. Each grape variety is vinified separately before the final blend is assembled.
Ageing: Greppicaia undergoes extended maturation in French oak, followed by further ageing in bottle. This careful maturation develops complexity and integrates the wine’s powerful fruit, oak and tannin structure, creating a Super Tuscan designed to evolve beautifully with age.
Organoleptic Evaluation and Food Pairing: Intense ruby red with a complex bouquet of black cherry, blackberry and ripe dark berries, complemented by Mediterranean herbs, cedar, tobacco, spice and subtle chocolate notes. The palate is structured and concentrated yet remarkably polished, with fine tannins, excellent freshness and a mineral edge. Powerful but harmonious, leading to a long and persistent finish.
Vintage Notes: Despite heavy spring rainfall, the Greppi vineyards remained largely unaffected thanks to timely vineyard management and the estate ’ s well-drained sandy soils. The hot, dry summer that followed supported healthy ripening and excellent grape quality, with yields slightly below average. Harvest began on September 5 with Merlot and concluded with Cabernet Sauvignon during the first week of October
Excellent with grilled premium beef, roast or slow-cooked lamb, wild boar, game, rich Tuscan meat dishes, truffle-based dishes and mature cheeses.
