Appellation: Morellino di Scansano DOCG
Grapes: 90% Sangiovese, 5% Alicante, 5% Ciliegiolo
Production Area: Produced in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma around Scansano, where Fattoria Le Pupille has been making Morellino di Scansano since 1985. The vineyards grow across varied soils, including sandstone, clay and limestone. The warm Mediterranean climate, together with cooling coastal influences, helps the Sangiovese develop ripe fruit while retaining freshness and aromatic character.
Winemaking: Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 10–15 days of maceration, developing colour, fruit character and smooth tannins while retaining freshness.
Ageing: ged for 2preserving the purity, freshness and vibrant fruit character of the wine.
Soil: The vineyards are planted on a varied mix of sandstone, clay and limestone-rich soils typical of the Maremma. This diversity contributes to the wine’s balance, freshness and structure, while enhancing the bright and expressive character of Sangiovese.
Organoleptic Evaluation and Food Pairing: Bright ruby red. The nose shows maraschino cherry and red berries alongside peony and red rose, with hints of cinnamon and cloves. The palate is crisp and refreshing, with smooth tannins and a long, flavourful finish.
An exceptionally versatile Tuscan red. Excellent with pasta and ragù, pizza, tomato-based dishes, grilled pork, roast chicken, antipasti, Tuscan-style soups and grilled or roasted meats.
