Barbaresco Cascina Bruciata 2012From: $69.90Until recently the vineyards of Cascina Bruciata (“house on fire”) produced fruit that was purchased by Gaja and the Giacosa brothers of Neive among others. Marino Balbo (father) would have continued on this path were it not for the wish of his son Carlo who wanted to bottle a family wine instead. In 2000, Carlo established the brand Cascina Bruciata. He owns 7.5 hectares including three in the celebrated Rio Sordo cru.
Barolo Borgogno 2012From: $85.0091 POINTSBy WineEnthusiastThe name Borgogno has always been linked to one of the oldest wine producing houses in Langa and Piemonte. It all began in 1761 when Bartolomeo Borgogno established the cellar.
Barolo Marco Marengo “Bricco delle Viole” 2013From: $99.90
“One of the main Crus of Barolo: Bricco delle Viole”
95/100 Rober Parker
This estate produces 5,500 bottles from one hectare of vines. Like Marco’s other Barolo wines, this one is fermented with ambient yeasts and undergoes malolactic fermentation in small oak barrel. The wine is aged in new (only 20%) and neutral oak for two years before release. This expression shows excellent depth and generosity with lively fruit flavors that wrap thickly over the palate. This is a complete and centered expression that makes a loud and positive impact, but ultimately follows through with extreme elegance and grace.
