    FERRARI Perle’ Trentodoc 2009

    From: $39.90

      Metodo Classico TrentoDOC

    5 years aging on lees

Ferrari has enjoyed a very happy past twelve months picking up many deserved awards and recognition that place it at the top of the Italian sparkling wine category. The Lunelli family is detailed-minded and determined. They show a deft ability to communicate their product in international markets. This is no easy feat considering the understandable confusion that metodo classico sparkling wines suffer with regards to Prosecco and sparkling wines (including Champagne) that boast a much stronger identity. In truth, Ferrari’s wines compete with the best of the best and they offer a uniquely Italian (cool mountain climate) expression that makes them particularly delicious, crisp and luminous.

I absolutely love the 2011 Franciacorta Dosaggio Zero presented by Contadi Castaldi. This 50-50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Nero shows a spectacular level of richness and opulence that comes across with yellow fruit, tropical tones, apricot and buttered almond biscuits. The 2011 vintage was a hot one and that extra heat has added to the overall generosity and suppleness of this delicious sparkling wine. In the mouth, it presents rich, creamy effervescence and a long, fruit-driven finish.  93 by Robert Parker
